BATV – TV43 Cable Access Television in Batavia High School, Batavia, IL, USA - The
new Cable Access studio within the walls of Batavia High School was a win-win situation for both. The high school would have direct access to the studio for educational classes, and the cable station would have direct access to the students to run camera and do editing for local programming. A variety of Videssence lighting instruments were installed in the studio. Currently being used to light the interview set, the lights can be re-hung to light the chromakey wall, or taken down for location shoots. The selection of fixtures includes a Baselite #B220-455BX, Koldlites #K110-255BX & #K220-455BX and Modular #M110-255BX each with a variety of accessories, including intensifiers and zone control screens.
Chabot College, Hayward, CA, USA - The Information & Technology Department was searching for a television lighting solution that could be used in their studio as well as a variety of teaching locations around the campus. Chabot Long Distance Education was creating a progressive program where courses are offered with the instructor’s lectures on DVD. Ginger Ripplinger, Manager of Instructional Television at KCC-TV, realized the need for the best possible lighting in order to produce the highest quality video for broadcast and DVD. The final decision was made to go with a Videssence lighting package from system integrator, Redwood Media Group, designed by Steve Mukley. Videssence fixtures included Koldlite Series K110-255BX and K220-455BX models, along with a range of control accessories.
CNN in London, England – CNN’s new multimillion dollar, state of the art, digital studio’s in central London went “On the Air” with Videssence lighting fixtures. The first generation of a new V-Beam illuminated the main news desk and was used for key lighting in the Stand Up Interview/New Flash Studio area. The new V-Beam #V252-642TT uses (6) 42 watt compact fluorescent lamps complimented by a new higher performance reflector material. Also, custom made for the project, was a set of "Eyelites." These fixtures were mounted under the ledge of the 20 foot circular shaped news desk to provide low angle fill lighting. Finally, the Modular #M110-255 was used as fill, to provide perfect, even lighting for a multiple purpose area.
CNN+ in Madrid, Spain - Videssence provided a lighting system for CNN+ in Madrid, Spain that included custom products developed previously to light the CNN studio in London, England. A custom V-Beam #V252-642TT, with (6) 42 watt compact fluorescent lamps was used to light the main news desk. Additionally, custom “Eyelites” mounted under the ledge of the circular shaped news desk provided low angle fill lighting for talent, using 6 watt T-2 lamps. Standard products, the Baselite Series fixtures #B220-455BX, were used to light the Chromakey wall because of their broad, even lighting beam. The bold design with vivid red and blue colors in the CNN+ studio and newsroom background, create contrast for a dramatic on air look.
Econolite in Anaheim, CA, USA - Video conference spaces can not be properly lit with standard office or conference room light fixtures that provide horizontal illumination (light on the table). The critical light levels are the vertical surfaces of the participant's faces and the walls in the camera's view. Additionally, the lighting system should not cast harsh shadows on the participant's face. At this installation for Econolite, Videssence’s Softlite #S110-255BXTB-D/PM fluorescent fixtures comfortably illuminate participants with proper light levels while Softwash #SW055-155BXTB-D/PM fixtures illuminate the walls. Both fixtures were provided with dimming ballasts, to allow total control of the broadcast image.
FOX-Portland, OR, USA - Videssence was chosen as the preferred lighting solution for KPTV (Fox 12) and KPDX (My Network TV, PDX 49) studio revamp! Meredith Broadcasting recently embarked on a major overhaul of the entire look and feel of their news programming. Entirely new sets were designed and constructed, large plasma screens were added and they looked towards new lighting to show it off at its best. Steve Mulkey, from Redwood Media Group, designed the new lighting package utilizing Videssence’s Power Key #P220-455BX and V-Beam V168-442TT. The production manager, Terry Deming, commented on the results of the lighting in the October17, 2007 issue of TV Technology in the USER section.
“We have tried products from other fluorescent manufactures. But, when all the tests were complete, we found Videssence was the superior choice.”
KDKA-TV (CBS-2) in Pittsburgh, PA, USA - Once again KDKA-TV chose energy efficient lighting solutions from Videssence to make their latest news set pop with vibrant illumination. Videssence lighting products have been dominating KDKA-TV news sets for over 25 years and the newest set incorporated some of the company’s latest LED lighting technology.
KDKA-TV (CBS-2) Pittsburgh Marathon - Pittsburgh, PA, USA – May 3, 2015 Videssence studio lighting joins KDKA-TV at the finish line of the Pittsburgh Marathon for interviews. Host Bob Pomoeani and his guests have more than enough illumination to look great for the broadcast with Videssence’s LED Nine lights. The 225 watt fixtures are available in either 3200K or 5700K for daylight. This exterior event required the daylight option.
KLAS - TV, CBS Channel 8 in Las Vegas, NV, USA - Chris Andrus of Andrus & Associates headed the project to re-light seven sets. They replaced 10 years of Videssence lighting history and re-illuminated the studio with the latest generation of Videssence instruments featuring state of the art design elements, enhanced photometrics and overall improved performance. The products selected, the V-Beam, Baselite and Modular Series, used an assortment of accessories to complement the performance of each instrument. Tim Foley, Executive Director of KLAS stated that lighting the studio with the latest models of Videssence products exceeded their expectations and easily met their primary goal of looking outstanding on the air.
KYW-TV (CBS-3) in Philadelphia, PA, USA - This Philadelphia broadcast studio was the first, true HD station in the United States. It was built from the ground up specifically for High Definition broadcasting and debuted on air April 2, 2007. Since HD technology shows infinitely more detail in the broadcast image, fluorescent fixtures are the perfect lighting solution. Fluorescent fixtures produce a much softer, more diffuse light without harsh edges, resulting in a much more flattering image of the “talent” and set. Videssence lighting provides the highest quality broadcast look under the detail of HD cameras as well as the lowest heat generation and electrical loads.
Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, USA - The Communications Arts building upgraded a general meeting room into a state of the art, multi purpose video conference facility. Because of the highly sophisticated equipment being used, lighting was critical. Installing effective light for the camera, while providing quality illumination on the presenters and attendees in the room, was vital. After research, Videssence’s Softlites, were selected. Three rows of three #S110-255BX-D/PM, more than fulfilled the requirements of the room. Richard Tibbals, CAS Information Technology Manager said "Everyone who has seen a demonstration of the room has been very impressed with the evenness of light produced from the Videssence fixtures.”
UCF’s Nicholson School of Communication, Orlando, FL, USA - The Nicholson School of Communications chose energy friendly lighting solutions from Videssence in 1998, so it’s no surprise they considered the advantages their current LED offerings in 2015 when upgrading the broadcast studio. Videssence Lighting provided new LED luminaires to re-light the TV Studio at the University of Central Florida. Switching to Videssence’s Vidnel Fresnels and Vidfill Soft Lights provided tremendous energy savings over their old Quartz fixtures.
Viewpoint Productions Services, Inc. in Pittsburg, PA, USA – This professional video and audio rental company, has been offering a variety of equipment and production services to the broadcast industry for over 25 years. Clients include, NBC News, NBC Sports, HBO, MTV, ABC News, ESPN and numerous feature films, to name a few. After adding Videssence’s Baby Base Kits to their lighting rentals, Jim Artzberger, the principle, commented on the portable kits in the April 18, 2004 issue of TV Technology in the USER section.
“The light weight kit is great for location single talent shoots and executive three point lighting set-ups. Let me tell you, after seeing them in use, those little guys pack quite a punch!” Each unit only draws 84 watts, yet it puts out light equal to a 300 watt incandescent fixture.
WWNY-TV (CBS-7) in Watertown, NY, USA - WWNY-TV upgraded their studio lighting in 2013 with additional Videssence lighting. Their original use of Videssence fixtures started 20 years ago with the installation of some of the first fluorescent studio fixtures offered in the industry. The most recent improvement added ExceLED, LED fixtures along with the only adjustable beam fluorescent fixtures in studio lighting, the Powerkey.
